Aizawl -Melthum road remained blocked for the whole day today because of heavy land slide in Ngaizel. The land slide also damaged a portion of a residential house on the other side of the road which is occupied by 4 families. Luckily there was no human casualty. According to eye witness account, one women was trapped in the house when the landslide blocked the door and she was rescued by the neighbors by pulling her out of the window. There was no-one else in the house when the land slide occurred at about 7:15 this morning. The people who rushed together to the spot immediately constructed footpath across the landslide for crossing. As the clearance work started late it is expected to be restored for all vehicular traffic by tonight or tomorrow morning.
Leadership training for 21 persons in United Pentecostal Church, North East was concluded today. At the closing function, the General Superintendent of North East, Rev. R. Lalrinsanga asked the Church members to have in-depth study of the word of God. The result of the trainee was announced by Rev. C. Lalmuanpuia.

Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) and Mizo Students Union (MSU) resolved to ask the authority in Mizoram University to make correction in the advertisement already issued for recruitment of new employees. In a press release issued after a joint meeting held today, the two Student Organizations also resolved to work hand in hand for fulfillment of their demand.

Revenue Minister, Mr. JH Rothuama arrived in Champhai today on official tour. Our Champhai Corr. reported that his engagement during his three day’s visit to Champhai includes inspection of house site plan between Champhai Kanan Veng and Zotlang, new Township Plan at Melbuk and inspection of land already leased out to several departments in Champhai town area which still remain unused till today.

17 Branches of YMA in Champhai town planted about 2550 saplings in Champhai town area yesterday to mark the 23rd anniversary of Mizoram Peace Day. Our Champhai Corr. reported that the tree plantation was organized by Champhai Town Beautification Committee. It will also inspect the condition of trees planted last year in the near future.

Two under trial prisoners escaped from Central Jail last night. According to Police sources, the prisoners escaped by climbing over the prison wall with the help of some CGI sheets. The two escapees are Chinsuanmuana of Hmunlai village, Myanmar arrested in connection with burglary and  Lalthankima of Khakchang village, Tripura arrested by Kanhmun Police. The Police immediately launched search operation and non of them have been re-arrested till this afternoon.

Mizoram Consumer Union asked gas consumers to utilize special concession given by IOC for transfer of their gas connection to the gas agent in their locality. The Office Bearers of the MCU which met in Aizawl today reviewed problems being faced by the consumers and asked the gas distributors not to create any more problems for the consumers who are applying for transfer of their consumer cards. The MCU also discussed the need to take up the matter to higher authority to ensure proper implementation of instructions issued by the AOC for compliance of the gas distributors.

ZNP asked the Government to take prompt action against the defaulters if Builum Inquiry Commission unearth lapses or discrepancies on the part of the officials involved. In a press release, ZNP expressed confidence on the Inquiry Commission headed by S.L Sailova. The Party also asked the Government to adequately compensate the loss incurred by the farmers on account of the stay order issued by the Government which prevented the farmers from tilling their land for several years.

Zoram Taxi Driver Association expressed shame for involvement of some taxi drivers in illegal activities including transportation of drugs, arms and ammunitions. In a press release, the Taxi Drivers Association asked all its members to desist from such activities and asked the Government to cooperate them in their effort to make the taxi drivers to be trust worthy.

Traffic Police SP asked bikers not to remove the side glasses in their two wheelers. In a notification issued today, the Traffic SP asked all the bikers to fit the side glasses by 6th of this month or face action against them for delay.

Mizoram Village Council Association has been dissolved with immediate effect. A notice to this effect was issued by the Village Council Association today citing the reasons which included replacement of local administration in the city area by municipal council and taking over of the entire affairs by Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation Department.

Peoples Right to Information and Development Implementing Society of Mizoram (PRISM) asked the Government to review the report of Fitment Committee on implementation of the 6th Pay Commission recommendation and suggested inclusion of non official members in the Fitment Committee. In a letter written to the Chief Minister and the Chief  Secretary, PRISM stated that 68 crores of rupees which is the proposed extra expenditure to be incurred by the Government for implementation of the 6th Pay Commission report is too huge and unaffordable for Mizoram. It also stated that Mizoram Government servant had already drawn their pay at enhanced scale as per decision taken by the Council of Ministers on 23rd July last year.
